How to break your cell phone on purpose

This may sound like a stupid article. Why would anyone want to break their expensive cell phone on purpose? Well, there may be a couple of instances where it may be better to break your cell phone than to live with it.

First of all, I, like many of you, have had many instances where a cell phone has intermittent problems. A cell phone may exhibit dropped calls, lack of service, or poor data connections at random times. The problem here is that the manufacturer most often will not replace the phone unless they can reproduce the problem. And of course, just like when you take your car to the mechanic, when you call to report your cell phone issue, the problem magically disappears.

This is when you may have to take matters into your own hands. Try all the remedies your provider gives you to fix the problem first, such as filing a request for better service, trying a new sim card (if you have a phone that takes one), or resetting and restoring the software for the phone. If all that doesn't work and you still have intermittent problems, you may just have to "break" the phone yourself.

The easiest way to get a replacement phone is to simply tell your provider that the screen is white or blank, but the phone is on. There is really very little that can be done in such a circumstance. Since you can't see the screen, you can't reload the software or make many tests of the phone, so about the only alternative is to replace the phone. And, since the phone is on, they won't try to just send you a battery as may happen if the phone simply does not come on.

If your phone is not under warranty anymore, you still may be able to get a new one if you have insurance. Most phone insurance covers lost or broken phones, so that may be another option for a malfunctioning phone. There is usually a deductible, but it is quite often much cheaper than buying a new one. The easiest thing to do here would simply be to "loose" the phone somewhere. It is easy enough to leave your phone someplace when you are out and about. Just be sure to call and suspend service so no one can run up your bill. At that same time, you can usually start your insurance claim.

We all hate phone problems. Most can be fixed by simply calling your provider and speaking with a technician that can walk you through a few steps to solve the problem. However, some problems simply can't be diagnosed over the phone, so the warranty can't cover them. In that case, it may be better to simply give your phone other problems that are covered. That way, you won't waste a lot of time waiting for the issue to appear at a time that is convenient to call and can just move on with a new phone.
